The registration period for the 2010 CYS Program is February 1 - 28, 2010.

Teacher and school cooperation is essential to make Count Your Steps a success.

Follow these steps to track the student's progress:

  • Encourage student to work with parent each night to complete and total
    their weekly log sheets.
  • Students will return weekly logs to the classroom teacher on Monday.
  • If you desire, using the Classroom Tally log (file size 87KB), log the number of steps the student reports each week.
  • Log on to www.countyoursteps.org to report each students weekly step totals by noon on Tuesday of each week.

If you need assistance, please call 248-452-9174.

Other Guidelines for teachers:

  • If Saturday or Sunday is a Sabbath day for a student, have the student log their steps from the previous day or take their average from the week.
  • Teachers and school personnel have the right to disqualify or set ground rules for a student if they feel the student is not following contest rules or is cheating.
  • All first, second and third place prizes are raffled. Prizes are only an incentive to get the kids moving and give them reason to keep up the good work.
  • If a pedometer is lost or broken, a replacement pedometer can be purchased from a local sports/department store at the parent or school's expense.
  • Pedometers may accidentally reset to zero. If this occurs, the child is allowed to record the total steps logged on the previous day.
  • Supplement the program with lessons about physical activity & healthy eating.

Step Guidelines:

About 2,000 steps=1 mile. The national goal is for individuals to achieve 10,000 steps or more. Children typically average 15,000-20,000 steps a day. An equivalent of 5 miles and 45-60 minutes of exercise daily.
